Jane & Barbara - Powerful Partnership

Jane and Barbara have been advocacy Partners for about 18 months.  In that time, Jane has moved to a new home, has got her own money, has a companion who takes her out once a week and has had her own disco party to celebrate being in her present home, where she is very happy, for one year.  In March this year, Jane, supported by Barbara, attended a ‘Lifestyles Choices’ course organised by SCOPE.  It was a 5 day residential course at Barnstondale Centre, Wirral.  Not only was Jane a participant, but she and Barbara had been asked to give a presentation about their personal experiences of being advocacy Partners.  It was very much a joint effort.  Lorraine met Jane and Barbara (in the pub, of course) to help plan the presentation.  On the day, Jane was in charge of the ‘prompt’ cards, and the timing, whilst Barbara did most of the talking.  However, Jane was eager to interrupt whenever she had something important to add!  The presentation went very well, and Jane and Barbara felt they had done a good job of advertising the huge benefits of Citizen Advocacy to all on the course.  They were very pleased with themselves.  When, at the end, everyone clapped, one member also suggested they should make a video to tell everybody about how good advocacy can be.  And who knows they just might!
