My Experience @ IA

I’ve now completed my 30 days placement with IA.

I’m currently studying a BA Hons in Social Work at Salford University and IA was my first placement.

I was worried about starting my placement as I wasn’t sure what I’d be doing or how the staff would feel about having me joining their team. I’m happy to say that as soon as I had been there a couple of days I felt really comfortable and found all the staff really welcoming from the off.

I had an induction and had weekly supervision with Lorraine to ensure that the induction was being carried out.

I’ve learnt so much about the different projects at IA, spending most of my time working with Lorraine on Crisis Advocacy and Heather on Citizen Advocacy.

I also helped Debbie out around the office which has helped build my confidence in answering phone calls and general office duties.  I’ve gained knowledge in advocacy, attending meetings where I have been able to observe some of the things Social Workers do which I feel will be beneficial to me in the future.

During my time with IA, Lorraine retired and so I also got the pleasure of meeting Nick, the new manager. I’ve enjoyed hearing about his life experiences and the different types of work he’s done before joining IA.

I’ve really enjoyed my time with IA and will genuinely miss all the staff as it’s been great getting to know them.

I would like to thank all at IA for having me and for the help and support they’ve given me during my time with them.
