CRISIS Advocacy Update ...

The Crisis Advocacy project as funded by the National Lottery is over target in terms of referrals, which is good news in one way but disappointing that Crisis Advocacy is needed so much , it also means lots of work for me and everyone else (more on this later).

Steering Group - This is currently made up of people who refer to the service and the group meets regularly to discuss and look at the work we have been doing.

New Links - We continue to receive a wide range of referrals including for younger people and older people, for a wide range of issues including personal finance, housing, the transfer to adult services and parents with learning disabilities.

This last issue, I have, particularly as a former Social Worker, grave concerns about as there clearly needs to be a joined up approach to supporting parents with learning disabled children.

From my own experience I have known many fine and capable parents who have additional needs (including learning disabilities), who provide loving and stimulating homes for their children particularly when offered the support they feel they need.

Volunteer Advocates The amount of work coming into Crisis Advocacy continues to offer opportunities for volunteer Crisis Advocates to use their experience and skills to support others to make positive changes in their lives and overcome specific problems.

We welcome anyone who would be interested in this work.  If you are unsure about whether you’d be able to get involved, the opportunity is available to jointly work on some cases, this would be particularly useful as some of us work part time.
